What is Beacon Treatment Center Insurance?
Beacon health insurance, now called Beacon Health Options, is a primarily behavioral health insurance provider. You may recognize them from their original name ValueOptions. However, they merged in 2020 and became Beacon Health Options owned by Anthem Inc.
Currently, Beacon insurance is available in all 50 states and services around 40 million people. Beacon also offers partnerships with around 65 other health insurance plans.
Types of Beacon Insurance Plans
Beacon offers a variety of plans for mental health disorders and behavioral health treatment programs.
Understanding Your Beacon Insurance Plan
Depending on the state you live in, Beacon Health may have direct partnerships with your current health insurance plan to allow you additional access to behavioral health treatment.
Beacon plans usually cover the majority of costs associated with assessment, detox, medications and medication assisted treatment, mental health therapy, as well as inpatient or residential stays. Beacon also offers Telehealth mental health services to its subscribers, but you will have much more limited options in Telehealth versus in-person counseling.
Beacon’s Coverage Levels
- HMO: This is the most cost-effective option with lower monthly premiums, but it requires you see only in-network providers and most referrals will have to come from a primary care physician.
- POS: This plan is one step up from the HMO option and may grant some out-of-network access, but still requires referrals from a PCP.
- PPO: This is one of the more common plans, and is more costly, but allows greater freedom in choosing in-network or out-of-network providers. Here, you will not need a referral for substance use disorder treatment.
- EPO: This is the most expensive plan, but will give you a full range of in and out-of-network providers that you can freely choose without a referral.
- If you choose to go to a provider outside of Beacon’s coverage network, there is a chance you will have to pay the majority of the associated costs.
Addiction Treatment Cost
Due to the passing of the Affordable Care Act in 2014, health insurance companies cannot charge additional premiums or deny care for pre-existing conditions.
Thankfully, due to the mental health care and substance treatment services needed to treat substance abuse, health insurance providers are required to classify this as a pre-existing condition.
Many fear having to pay out of pocket for rehab centers. However, your Beacon substance abuse treatment insurance policy will make it easier to access the care you need.
Your treatment facility will be able to work with you to determine what your insurance provider will cover, and can explain your Beacon benefits to you.
Substance Abuse Treatment with Beacon
